the Naamathite | Then Zophar | replied: | |

11-1. Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

| יִצְדָּֽק | שְׂפָתַ֣יִם | וְאִםאִ֖ישׁ | יֵעָנֶ֑ה | לֹ֣א | דְּ֭בָרִים | רֹ֣ב | הֲ |

|
ya-sa-da-qh | sha-pa-tha-ya-m | wa-aa-maa-ysha | ya-'a-na-ha | la-a | da-ba-ra-ym | ra-b | ha | |
|
yisedaq | sepatayim | we'im'iys | ye'aneh | lo' | debariym | rob | ha |
|
|
be vindicated? | and such a speaker | go unanswered | of words | “Should this stream | |
|
|
11-2. Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?
|
| מַכְלִֽם | וְאֵ֣ין | וַ֝תִּלְעַ֗ג | יַחֲרִ֑ישׁו | מְתִ֣ים | בַּ֭דֶּיךָ |
|
|

|
makelim | we'eyn | watile'ag | yahariysw | metiym | badeyka |
|
|
rebuke? | without | Will you scoff | to silence? | put others | Should your babbling | |
|
|
11-3. Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

| בְעֵינֶֽיךָ | הָיִ֥יתִי | וּ֝בַ֗ר | לִקְחִ֑י | זַ֣ךְ | וַ֭תֹּאמֶר |
|
|

|
be'eyneyka | hayiytiy | wbar | liqehiy | zake | wato'mer |
|
|
in Your sight.’ | and I am | pure | ‘My doctrine [is] | sound, | You have said, | |
|
|
11-4. For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

11-5. But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

| עֲוֹנֶֽךָ | מֵ | לְךָ֥אֱ֝לֹ֗והַ | כִּֽייַשֶּׁ֥ה | וְדַ֡ע | לְֽת֫וּשִׁיָּ֥ה | כִּֽיכִפְלַ֪יִם | חָכְמָה֮ | לְךָ֨תַּֽעֲלֻמֹ֣ות | וְיַגֶּד |

|
[less] than your iniquity [deserves]. | from you God | then that exacts | Know | true wisdom | for has two sides. | of wisdom, | to you the secrets | and disclose | |

11-6. And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

11-7. Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

11-8. It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

11-9. The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

|
|
can hinder Him? | who | or convenes a court, | to imprison you, | If He comes along | |

11-10. If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

| יִתְבֹּונָֽן | וְלֹ֣א | אָ֝֗וֶן | וַיַּרְא | שָׁ֑וְא | מְתֵי | יָדַ֣ע | כִּיה֭וּא |

yitebownan | welo' | 'awen | wayare' | sawe' | metey | yada' | kiyhw' |

|
take note? | does He not | iniquity, | If He sees | the deceit | of men. | knows | Surely He | |
|
|
11-11. For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

|
yiwaled | 'adam | pere' | we'ayir | yilabeb | nabwb | we'iys |
|
|
can be born | a man! | of a wild donkey | than the colt | can no more become wise | But a witless | man | |
|
|
11-12. For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

| אֵלָ֣יוכַּפֶּֽךָ | וּפָרַשְׂתָּ֖ | לִבֶּ֑ךָ | הֲכִינֹ֣ותָ | אִםאַ֭תָּ֗ה |

|
|
to Him, your hands | and lift up | your heart | you direct | if As for you, | |

|
11-13. If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;
|
| עַוְלָֽה | בְּאֹהָלֶ֣יךָ | תַּשְׁכֵּ֖ן | וְאַל | הַרְחִיקֵ֑הוּ | בְּ֭יָדְךָ | אִםאָ֣וֶן |

'a-wa-la-ha | ba-aa-ha-la-yka | tha-sha-ka-n | wa-aa-l | ha-ra-cha-yqa-hwa | ba-ya-da-ka | aa-maa-wa-n | |
|
'awelah | be'ohaleyka | taseken | we'al | harehiyqehw | beyadeka | 'im'awen |
|
|
injustice | in your tents, | to dwell | and allow no | you put away | in your hand, | if the iniquity | |
|
|
11-14. If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

11-15. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

| תִזְכֹּֽר | עָבְר֣וּ | מַ֖יִם | כְּ | תִּשְׁכָּ֑ח | עָמָ֣ל | כִּיאַ֭תָּה |

|
tizekor | 'aberw | mayim | ke | tisekah | 'amal | kiy'atah |
|
|
recalling | gone by. | it only as waters | will forget | [your] misery, | For you | |
|
|
11-16. Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

|
tiheyeh | boqer | ka | ta'upah | haled | yaqwm | sahorayim | wmi |
|
|
will be | like the morning. | its darkness | Your life | will be brighter | than noonday; | |
|
|
11-17. And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

|
tisekab | labetah | wehapareta | tiqewah | kiyyes | wbataheta |
|
|
and lie down | in safety. | and you will look around | hope, | because there is | You will be secure, | |
|
|
11-18. And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

11-19. Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

|
for their last breath.” | ,and they will hope | will be cut off | their escape route | will fail, | of the wicked | But the eyes | |

11-20. But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
