the Shuhite | Then Bildad | replied: | |
|
|
8-1. Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
|
| פִֽיךָ | אִמְרֵי | כַּ֝בִּיר | וְר֥וּחַ | אֵ֑לֶּה | תְּמַלֶּל | אָ֥ן | עַד |
|
|
pa-yka | aa-ma-ra-ya | ka-ba-yr | wa-rwcha | aa-la-ha | tha-ma-la-l | aa-n | 'a-d | |
|
piyka | 'imerey | kabiyr | werwha | 'eleh | temalel | 'an | 'ad |
|
|
of your mouth | The words | are a blustering | wind. | such things? | will you go on saying | “How long | |
|
|
8-2. How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

|
sedeq | ye'awet | we'imsaday | misepat | ye'awet | 'el | ha |
|
|
what is right? | pervert | Or does the Almighty | justice? | pervert | Does God | |
|
|
8-3. Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

| פִּשְׁעָֽם | בְּיַד | לֹ֑ווַֽ֝יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗ם | חָֽטְאוּ | אִםבָּנֶ֥יךָ |
|
|
pa-sha-'a-m | ba-ya-d | la-wwa-ya-sha-la-cha-m | cha-ta-awa | aa-mba-na-yka | |
|
pise'am | beyad | lowwayesalehem | hate'w | 'imbaneyka |
|
|
to their rebellion. | He gave them over | sinned against Him, | When your children | |
|
|
8-4. If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
|
| תִּתְחַנָּֽן | וְאֶלשַׁ֝דַּ֗י | אֶלאֵ֑ל | תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר | אִםאַ֭תָּה |
|
|
tha-tha-cha-na-n | wa-aa-lsha-da-ya | aa-laa-l | tha-sha-cha-r | aa-maa-tha-ha | |
|
titehanan | we'elsaday | 'el'el | tesaher | 'im'atah |
|
|
for mercy, | and and ask the Almighty | God | would earnestly seek | But if you | |
|
|
8-5. If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
|
| צִדְקֶֽךָ | נְוַ֣ת | וְ֝שִׁלַּ֗ם | עָלֶ֑יךָ | יָעִ֣יר | כִּיעַ֭תָּה | אָ֥תָּה | וְיָשָׁ֗ר | אִםזַ֥ךְ |

sa-da-qa-ka | na-wa-tha | wa-sha-la-m | 'a-la-yka | ya-'a-yr | ka-y'a-tha-ha | aa-tha-ha | wa-ya-sha-r | aa-mza-ka | |
|
sideqeka | newat | wesilam | 'aleyka | ya'iyr | kiy'atah | 'atah | weyasar | 'imzake |
|
|
your righteous | estate. | and restore | on your behalf | He will rouse Himself | even now | you | and upright, | if are pure | |
|
|
8-6. If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

| מְאֹֽד | יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה | וְ֝אַחֲרִיתְךָ֗ | מִצְעָ֑ר | רֵאשִׁיתְךָ֣ | וְהָיָ֣ה |

|
ma-aa-d | ya-sha-ga-ha | wa-aa-chara-ytha-ka | ma-sa-'a-r | ra-asha-ytha-ka | wa-ha-ya-ha | |
|
me'od | yisegeh | we'ahariyteka | mise'ar | re'siyteka | wehayah |
|
|
will be full of prosperity. | your latter days | modest, | though your beginnings | were | |
|
|
8-7. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
|
| אֲבֹותָֽם | לְחֵ֣קֶר | וְ֝כֹונֵ֗ן | רִישֹׁ֑ון | לְדֹ֣ר | נָ֭א | כִּֽישְׁאַל |
|
|

|

8-8. For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:

aa-ra-tz | 'ala-ya | ya-ma-ynwa | ka-ysa-l | na-da-' | wa-la-a | aana-cha-nwa | ka-ytha-ma-wl | |
|
'ares | 'aley | yameynw | kiysel | neda' | welo' | 'anahenw | kiytemowl |
|
|
earth | on | our days | are but a shadow. | and know | nothing; | we [were born] | For yesterday | |
|
|
8-9. (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)

8-10. Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

|
water? | without | Do reeds | flourish | marsh? | where there is no | Does papyrus | grow | |

|
8-11. Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?

they dry up | grass. | quicker than | are still uncut, | the shoots | While | |

8-12. Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

| תֹּאבֵֽד | חָנֵ֣ף | וְתִקְוַ֖ת | אֵ֑ל | שֹׁ֣כְחֵי | כָּל | אָ֭רְחֹות | כֵּ֗ן |
|
|

|
to'bed | hanep | wetiqewat | 'el | sokehey | kal | 'arehowt | ken |

|
will perish. | of the godless | so the hope | God; | who forget | of all | is the destiny | Such | |
|
|
8-13. So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

mibetahow | 'akabiys | wbeyt | kiselow | 'aseryaqowt |
|
|
his security | is in a spider’s | web. | confidence | His is fragile; | |
|
|
8-14. Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

| יָקֽוּם | בֹּ֝֗ווְלֹ֣א | יַחֲזִ֥יק | יַעֲמֹ֑ד | וְלֹ֣א | בֵּ֭יתֹו | עַל | יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן |

|

|
endure. | but it does not | he holds fast, | but it gives way; | his web, | on | He leans | |
|
|
8-15. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

spreading | its shoots | the garden. | over | the sunshine, | in | He | is a well-watered plant | |
|
|
8-16. He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

|

|
yehezeh | 'abaniym | beyt | yesubakw | sarasayw | gal | 'al |
|
|
he looks for | the stones. | a home among | wrap | His roots | the rock heap; | around | |
|
|
8-17. His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.

| רְאִיתִֽיךָ | בֹּ֝֗ולֹ֣א | וְכִ֥חֶשׁ | מְּקֹומֹ֑ו | מִ | אִםיְבַלְּעֶ֥נּוּ |
|
|

saw you.’ | him, saying, ‘ I never | it will disown | his place, | from | If he is uprooted | |

|
8-18. If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.

|
ya-sa-ma-chwa | aa-cha-r | 'a-pa-r | wma | da-ra-ka-wa | ma-sha-wsha | hwa | ha-n | |
|
yisemahw | 'aher | 'apar | wme | darekow | mesows | hw' | hen |
|
|
will spring | yet others | the dust. | from | of His way; | is the joy | this | Surely | |
|
|
8-19. Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

|
of evildoers. | the hand | strengthen | nor will He | the blameless, | reject | does not | God | Behold, | |
|
|
8-20. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

|
|
with a shout of joy. | and your lips | fill your mouth | laughter, | He will yet with | |
|
|
8-21. Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.

|
|

|
'eynenw | resa'iym | we'ohel | boset | yilebesw | sone'eyka |
|
|
will be no more.” | of the wicked | and the tent | in shame, | will be clothed | Your enemies | |
|
|
8-22. They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
